Position Overview:
As a Rider Service Technician (RST), you will be the face of Velofix, providing high-level bike repair, maintenance, and customer service. You’ll be responsible for delivering outstanding service directly to clients, managing daily operations of the mobile shop, and ensuring all repairs are completed to the highest standards. This role requires both technical expertise and excellent communication skills, as you'll engage directly with customers and manage various service appointments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Bike Maintenance & Repair: Perform a wide range of services, including tune-ups, overhauls, wheel building, drivetrain services, brake adjustments, suspension servicing, and more.
- Customer Interaction: Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and professional service to all customers. Answer questions, make recommendations, and educate customers on bike care and maintenance.
- Mobile Bike Shop (MBS) Management: Manage the inventory, tools, and equipment in the mobile shop. Ensure the mobile shop is clean, organized, and fully stocked with necessary parts and tools.
- Scheduling & Route Optimization: Organize and prioritize appointments to maximize efficiency and ensure timely service. Utilize routing software and scheduling tools as needed.
- Quality Control: Maintain high standards of service and craftsmanship, ensuring that every bike leaves the mobile shop in top condition.
- Team Leadership: Train, mentor, and oversee any assistant mechanics or apprentices. Set an example of professionalism and technical expertise.
- Sales & Upselling: Identify additional service opportunities and recommend upgrades or accessories to enhance customers’ biking experience.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of services performed, parts used, and any other relevant details in the Velofix system.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 6-8 years as a professional bike mechanic, with a strong understanding of road, mountain, electric, and hybrid bikes. Previous experience in a lead or supervisory role is preferred.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications from organizations such as UBI, Barnett, or equivalent industry certifications are highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Extensive knowledge of bike and e-bike components, mechanical systems, and repair techniques. Proficiency in diagnosing issues and executing repairs with precision.
- Customer Service: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with customers.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage a mobile shop independently, including inventory management, scheduling, and equipment upkeep.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy objects, work on bikes at various heights, and perform manual tasks for extended periods.
- Driver’s License: A valid driver's license with a clean driving record, as the position requires driving the Velofix van.
