As a Service Writer, no one day is the same as the last and we stay busy well into the fall and early winter. This job is all about caring for bikes and setting riders up for success in whatever way they’re using their bikes. You’ll evaluate a wide range of bikes on the spot and advise on required parts, labor, and accessory options You’ll also be the first to have your hands on brand new models before they hit the sales floor. Most importantly, you’ll build relationships with people who trust you to keep their gear running flawlessly. This role closely supports the Service Manager. When the Service Manager is not available, you are the face of the department to customers.

We’re looking for a teammate with stellar customer service chops and a willingness to learn. Because you’ll constantly be speaking with customers to evaluate issues and recommend repairs, we value fantastic hospitality skills above prior shop experience. This role requires elevated skills in communication, leadership and problem solving.

Purpose of the Position:

  • Intake Bicycles for service, diagnosing problems and providing solutions for customers
  • Provide excellent customer service and product knowledge
  • Help maintain work order organization, using scheduling software
  • Strive to achieve service department goals of quality and efficient work
  • Collaborate with sales staff, mechanics, and builders

Duties:

  • Evaluate bikes brought in for service by thoroughly checking the bike and establishing expectations for services to be performed.
  • Create and maintain detailed work orders documenting all relevant information including all customer interactions.
  • Assign work orders to appropriate technicians on appropriate days.
  • Develop and share product knowledge with customers. Develop the ability to identify compatible replacement components.
  • Service-writers may be called upon to complete basic work orders and assemblies.
  • Communicate with customers and coworkers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Work to achieve guide status on Trek U, complete basic online modules for SRAM and Shimano. Develop a familiarity with Trek Tech site, SRAM spare parts manual, and si.shimano.com.

 Needed Qualifications:

  • A passion for cycling and the industry.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Openness to feedback and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to lift at least 55 lbs.
  • Familiarity with bicycle systems, technology, and compatibility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous bike shop experience strongly preferred
  • Bicycle Repair Mechanical Certification
  • Familiarity with POS and parts ordering systems, particularly Ascend.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish and English

Job Type: Full-time Seasonal with possible permanent position at end of season.

Salary: $19-23 per hour, based on experience

Expected hours: up to 40 per week, at least one weekend day mandatory
