About the Role

The Assistant Rental Manager oversees daily operations of the rental fleet, ensuring bikes are clean, safe, and ready for use. This role combines fleet management, customer service, and technical expertise. You will work closely with the Rental Manager, assist customers, maintain the rental fleet, and step in to support other departments during peak times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fleet Maintenance & Operations:
    • Clean and wash all rental bikes regularly.
    • Perform routine safety checks and maintenance on the rental fleet (torque bolts, check brakes, tune bikes).
    • Monitor and charge all e-bike and AXS batteries to ensure they are rental-ready.
    • Keep rental bikes organized in their designated storage/parking spots.
    • Remove damaged bikes from the rental rotation, create work orders, and update BRM (Bicycle Rental Manager) to swap reservations as needed.
  • Customer Setup & Support:
    • Assist customers with waivers and provide clear instructions on bike features, including e-bike controls, dropper posts, and suspension setups.
    • Adjust suspension and shock pressures to ensure optimal fit for each rider.
    • Provide local trail and route recommendations based on customer needs.
    • Fill out rental cards with customer details: name, height, weight, accessories, suspension pressures, and check-in/out times.
    • Ensure all rentals are marked "Checked Out" and "Checked In" in BRM at pickup and return.
  • Bike Builds & Repairs:
    • Build bikes for the sales floor and customer purchases.
    • Pack bikes for shipping, ensuring proper protection.
    • Assess any damage to rental bikes upon return and create work orders for repairs.
    • Make special parts orders in Lightspeed for required replacement components.
  • Shop Organization & Cleanliness:
    • Maintain clean and organized rental stations, storage areas, and workspaces.
    • Sweep floors, flatten cardboard boxes, and keep warehouse and storage areas tidy.
    • Set up and tear down EZ-up tents, repair stands, and bike displays in front of the shop as needed.
    • Wheel rental bikes from setup stations to the front of the shop each morning for customer pickup.
  • Team Support:
    • Monitor BRM throughout the day for newly booked reservations and manage bike handoffs efficiently.
    • Assist sales associates during peak times, including helping customers on the sales floor.
    • Provide support in the service center when needed, collaborating with technicians and other team members.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Contribute to weekly team meetings to share rental performance updates and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to highlight rental programs in newsletters or social media.
  • Proactively track rental bike usage to forecast maintenance needs and ensure fleet readiness.
  • Assist in training seasonal staff on rental processes, customer interactions, and fleet management.

What You Bring

  • Experience: 2+ years in a professional bike shop role, with a focus on bike service and maintenance.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency as a Level 2 Service Technician, including drivetrain adjustments, brake bleeds, suspension tuning, and wheel truing.
  • Product Knowledge: Familiarity with mountain bikes, gravel bikes, e-bike systems, and local trail networks for customer recommendations.
  • Customer Focus: A positive, solutions-oriented attitude with excellent communication and people skills.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong ability to prioritize tasks, maintain attention to detail, and work efficiently.
  • Physical Ability: Capable of lifting up to 75 lbs and standing/moving for extended periods.
  • Flexibility: Weekend availability (Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays) is required to meet customer demand.
  • Team Collaboration: A willingness to step in and assist other departments as needed to support the overall success of the shop.

Schedule & Position Details

  • Duration: Seasonal (April 1 – September 30).
  • Location: Issaquah, WA.
  • Weekends: Availability required (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays).
  • Hours: Up to 40 hours/week.
