UBI and Announce New
Advanced Wheel Building Certification Program

ASHLAND, OR: A hand-built bicycle wheel is a marvel of art and science, where seemingly fragile individual parts are selected and combined to create something capable of truly amazing dynamic performance. Mastering the skills to build such a wheel requires professional training and years of practice. Established in 1981, United Bicycle Institute has become the nation's premiere advanced instructional facility offering the bicycle industry a diverse selection of courses taught by knowledgeable, dedicated teachers. DT Swiss, makers of DT spokes for almost 50 years and also the creators of the Gerd Schraner Wheel Building course, has collaborated with UBI to offer certification to a new generation of wheel builders.

Participants in UBI's two day Certified Advanced Wheel Building course undergo a program of instruction featuring the best of DT Swiss' and UBI's proven methodology and experience. Students learn the theory behind optimal component selection and preparation, common lacing patterns, and final tension and truing methods. In class, UBI students experience hands-on practice building with DT Swiss spokes and can experiment with a number of wheel building tools which are part of the DT "Proline" collection.

Successful graduates receive a UBI/DT Swiss Certified Wheel Builder diploma and shop window sticker, and will be listed on UBI's Internet web site. The UBI/DT certificate is highly regarded in the bicycle industry as a sign of excellence and mastery of the fine art of wheel building.

Graduates of the seminar are also listed on UBI's website on their DT Certified Wheel Builder page.
